In 2022/23, the Ordinands’ Association commissioned a report to research the financial pressures faced by ordinands in training. The report found that a notable 25% of ordinands have encountered at least one form of financial hardship; 67% reported a deteriorated financial status since starting their training; and around half of ordinands indicated that their mental health was impacted negatively by financial worries. Although there were some limitations to our sample, this report nevertheless suggests a trend of concerning financial pressure amongst ordinands in training.
