Living Support

This page lists sources of non-emergency financial support for living costs during your training.

The Church of England’s system of financial support for ordinands is explained here (2023-24). Your diocese is primarily responsible for providing for the cost of your training and living costs (where applicable), so your DDO will be the best source of information about financial support from the Church.

The Church also advises ordinands to apply for all state benefits for which they are eligible. This may include tax credits, universal credit, child benefit, and housing benefit. Turn2Us is a useful tool for calculating for which benefits you are eligible.

All ordinands in full-time training are eligible for council tax reduction, for which you apply through your local council.

The Church also recommends that ordinands apply for reduction of NHS charges.
